Colombian-born, Paris-based designer Haider Ackermann has been named creative director of Tom Ford, effective immediately.

A critically-acclaimed fashion talent, Ackermann’s recent outings involve collaborations with Jean-Paul Gaultier, for whom he designed the French brand’s spring-summer 2023 haute couture collection, and Canada Goose, where he was named the outerwear maker’s first-ever creative director in May. Prior to that, Ackermann helmed his namesake fashion label (which closed in 2020) as well as a stint serving as creative director of LVMH’s Berluti.

Ackermann succeeds Peter Hawkings, the long-time design deputy of Tom Ford’s founder and namesake. Copping exited the brand in July after two seasons in the top job.

Ackermann joins Tom Ford, which is owned by Estée Lauder and has licensed its fashion business to Zegna, with its founder’s blessing. “I have long been a great fan of Haider’s work,” Ford said in a statement. “He is an incredible colorist, his tailoring is sharp, and above all he is modern.”
