Tim Walz Gets Blasted for His Response to the Six Hostages Murdered by Hamas

Tim Walz visited the Minnesota State Fair on Sunday and quickly stirred controversy. Already fighting off a stolen valor scandal in which he repeatedly misled or outright lied about his military background, including where he served and his retirement rank, Walz found himself facing reporters.

Ice cream in hand, Kamala Harris’ vice presidential pick stood attentively until he got one question that spooked him. In a now-viral video, you can hear a reporter query Walz on the recent murder of six hostages held by Hamas. His response? To run away like he had just seen a ghost.

REPORTER: What’s your reaction to the six hostages being found dead in Gaza?

WALZ: Alright, thanks, everybody (waves and walks off).

The reporter is referring to the six victims shot by Hamas on Saturday just as IDF forces were closing in. One of those murdered was an American named Hersh Goldberg-Polin. The bodies were found in Rafah, a city in Gaza that Harris and other members of the administration had previously proclaimed off-limits.

In the face of such a tragedy, Walz’s reaction wasn’t to offer comfort. It wasn’t to acknowledge the atrocity. It wasn’t to speak forcefully against Hamas and demand the terrorist government‘s surrender. Instead, the would-be vice president abruptly ended the press gaggle and ran away.

Let’s get some of the excuses out of the way early. He heard the question. Not only was he standing there waiting for it to be asked, but the room was largely quiet at the time. It wasn’t until he heard the content of the inquiry from the reporter that he suddenly decided it was time to go. Further, whatever lack of information he may or may not have had about the situation, nothing was stopping him from offering his condolences before scurrying away.

It would have been incredibly simple to say, “I heard about that, and I’m very sorry to hear that. I’m praying for the families.” To not even be able to muster that was incredibly telling. There’s a reason Walz was heavily promoted by the pro-Hamas wing of the Democratic Party, including noted antisemites Ilhan Omar and Jamaal Bowman. He is an ally to them, and when faced with the reality of what that means, he didn’t want to say anything that could harm his electoral prospects in Dearborn, MI, and other areas the Harris campaign is counting on turning out.

As disturbing as Walz’s reaction was, it’s not surprising. Democrats have gotten very good at turning their backs on Americans. It should shock no one that a guy who went so far as to lie about his political origin story would have no moral center. Do Americans really want to put these people in charge for another four years? I would hope not.
