During the feeding frenzy of a news cycle in the wake of the ABC News presidential debate between Trump and Harris, we got breaking news in the wee hours of Sept. 11, about a member of the Republican House caucus suffering a sudden health scare. As I wrote:
GOP Rep. Joe Wilson of South Carolina was taken to a hospital on Tuesday evening, after reportedly collapsing while attending an event in Washington, D.C.
via Reuters:
Republican representative Joe Wilson, a senior member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, collapsed at an event on Tuesday and was rushed to hospital, his office said.
The official X profile for Wilson, 77, wrote a message that said the congressman “was taken ill and is being evaluated at a local hospital in Washington, DC.”
According to his son, South Carolina state Attorney General Alan Wilson, his father is in “stable” condition, and doctors “have confirmed [to the family] he has experienced stroke-like symptoms.”

Now, the congressman’s official X account has given the world an update on his condition over the past 24 hours, and it’s positive news. The first post was shared on Friday:
Update: While Congressman Wilson continues to be evaluated by medical staff, he is in good spirits, improving, and speaking with family.

The second update was posted Saturday afternoon:
Congressman Joe Wilson has received a pacemaker and he is expected to be discharged from the hospital in a matter of days. He is recovering quickly.

That’s good news. As anyone who has lived through family members suffering one or more strokes can tell you, though, Wilson likely is not out of the woods yet. We should keep praying for him and his loved ones, that he experiences a full and lasting recovery.
