After kicking off the Week 0 college football schedule, Florida State will close the Week 1 schedule when the Seminoles play the Boston College Eagles on Monday. FSU looks to salvage its season and hopes of making a College Football Playoff appearance after losing to Georgia Tech, 24-21, despite being favored by double-digit points in Week 0. This will be Boston College’s first game of the season after going 7-6 last year and the Eagles return a strong offensive trio in starting quarterback Thomas Castellanos, top running back Kye Robichaux and top receiver Lewis Bond all back this fall.

Florida State vs. Boston College will kick off from Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee, Fla. at 7:30 p.m. ET. FSU is a 16.5-point favorite in the latest Boston College vs. Florida State odds with the over/under for total points scored at 51.5, according to SportsLine consensus. Why Florida State can cover

FSU has won five straight and 12 of its last 13 games against Boston College, including winning by an average of 23 points in its last three home matchups. Florida State defeated Boston College, 44-14, in 2022 the last time they met in Tallahassee. Six of Florida State’s wins during that span came by at least two scores.

DJ Uiagalelei, a graduate transfer quarterback from Oregon State who also played at Clemson, was one of the most coveted quarterbacks in the transfer portal this offseason. Although he only threw for 193 yards against Georgia Tech, Uiagalelei passed for at least 200 yards in seven of his final eight games last year. He had 13 touchdowns compared to three interceptions over his final seven games last season as he’s a far better quarterback than he showed in Week 0. See which team to pick here.

Why Boston College can cover

One of Boston College’s strengths this season appears to be at the line of scrimmage with Ozzy Trapilo and Logan Taylor returning on the offensive line and Cam Horsley and Donovan Ezeiruaku returning on the defensive line. Trapilo, at 6-foot-8, 309 pounds, was a second-team All-ACC selection last season and Ezeiruaku is two years removed from having 8.5 sacks and 14.5 tackles for loss as a sophomore. Boston College returns all four starting defensive linemen as that experience and continuity could lead to a stronger defensive front.

Boston College provided a late scare to Florida State last season and scored the game’s final 19 points in a 31-29 loss to the Seminoles. Boston College has either won or lost by one score in five of its last six games against Florida State, and with the Seminoles losing a ton of talent from last year’s 13-1 team, plus dropping the first game of the season this year, Boston College could cover the number. Bill O’Brien, who coached Penn State to two winning seasons and also served as Houston Texans head coach, makes his Boston College head coaching debut and could bring immediate improvements to the program. See which team to pick here.
