Fantasy Football Rankings 2024: Busts from unbiased NFL model that nailed Jaylen Waddle's down season

Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes have been considered two of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, but Mahomes has more accolades and arguably could be higher in the 2024 fantasy football rankings. The Chiefs quarterback has two MVP awards and three Super Bowl titles. Allen hasn’t won either and will now be without star receiver Stefon Diggs, who joined the Texans this offseason. The year after the Chiefs traded away star receiver Tyreek Hill, many thought Mahomes and the Chiefs would struggle to have similar success. That season, Mahomes led the NFL in passing en route to an MVP and Super Bowl championship.

Without a true No. 1 receiver, do Allen’s 2024 Fantasy football projections suffer? How will Allen fare without Diggs and is there a Bills receiver ready to take over his production and become one of the 2024 Fantasy football breakouts? How should you view Buffalo pass-catchers when preparing for Fantasy football 2024 drafts? As you begin your 2024 Fantasy football draft prep, be sure to check out the 2024 Fantasy football cheat sheets from the proven computer model at SportsLine.

Last year, the model accurately predicted that Dolphins wide receiver Jaylen Waddle would fail to live up to his Fantasy football ADP. Waddle’s 2023 Fantasy football ADP was 34.86 overall and he was the 11th receiver off the board on average. He’d go on to notch a 1,000-yard season but only had 72 receptions with four touchdowns and he’d finish as the No. 34 Fantasy football wide receiver in CBS Sports PPR leagues.

The same model has a proven track record providing Fantasy football tips, identifying A.J. Brown as a sleeper in 2020 and nailing Jonathan Taylor’s monstrous season in 2021. Additionally, it’s called past Fantasy football sleepers like Derrick Henry in 2019, Christian McCaffrey and Alvin Kamara in 2018, and Davante Adams in 2017. Anybody who banked on players like those made a run at their league title.

The model is powered by the same people who generated projections for all three major Fantasy sites, and it beat human experts last season when there was a big difference in ranking. The 2024 Fantasy football PPR rankings and 2024 Fantasy football standard projections update multiple times daily, so you’re always getting the best Fantasy football advice.

Now, SportsLine has simulated the entire NFL season 10,000 times and released its latest Fantasy football rankings 2024, along with plenty of sleepers, breakouts and busts. Head to SportsLine now to see them.

Top 2024 Fantasy football busts

One of the 2024 Fantasy football busts the model is predicting: BPanthers running back Jonathon Brooks. The 21-year-old was the first running back selected in the 2024 NFL Draft, being picked in the second round and No. 46 overall by a Carolina team in desperate need of offensive sparks. Although Brooks is being selected in Fantasy football drafts like he’s the unquestioned starter and lead back, he has competition with veterans like Chuba Hubbard, Miles Sanders and Rashaad Penny in what could be a crowded backfield.

The Panthers ranked last in yards per game, last in yards per play, and 31st in points per game. It was a tough rookie season for Panthers quarterback Bryce Young, as despite Carolina ranking eighth in pass-play percentage, the Panthers were last in passing yards per game. Young came in with high expectations after being selected with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft and without a capable quarterback to keep the chains moving, Brooks will have limited opportunities to show off his skillset on the gridiron. With the unknowns surrounding Brooks’ usage and Carolina’s offensive success as a whole, the model sees the rookie going too high in 2024 Fantasy football drafts, marking him as one of the 2024 Fantasy football busts.

Another bust that SportsLine’s Fantasy football rankings 2024 have identified: Vikings receiver Jordan Addison. After being the No. 23 overall pick last year, Addison didn’t disappoint with a 70-911-10 stat line. However, a deeper dive into Addison’s season reveals areas of concern entering 2024. One is that the Vikings threw eight interceptions on passes in which Addison was targeted, the most in the NFL, despite Addison ranking just 31st in targets. Another is that Addison’s production seemed to coincide in who he was sharing the field with.

The rookie was the WR7 from Weeks 1-8 when Kirk Cousins was under center, but dropped to the WR37 in Weeks 9-18 when Minnesota started three other QBs. Additionally, the three games in which Addison was targeted the most times last season came when Justin Jefferson was sidelined. Cousins is now long gone and you can’t bank on Jefferson getting hurt again; both of those factors diminish Addison’s stock. SportsLine’s model pegs him as a Fantasy football bust 2024 and slots him behind Christian Watson, despite the Packers wideout being drafted multiple rounds later on average. See which other Fantasy football busts 2024 to avoid here.
