Elon Musk could become the world’s first trillionaire by 2027, report says

There are, at present, no trillionaires on Planet Earth, but that could change in the next two years, according to a new report from wealth-tracking service Informa Connect.

The company estimates Elon Musk’s net worth will surpass the $1 trillion mark in 2027, assuming his wealth growth continues at its current rate of 110% a year.

That’s not only a level of wealth most people can’t quite grasp, it’s one that only eight corporations have managed to reach so far.

While Musk, whose current net worth stands at $237 billion on the Bloomberg Billionaire Index, might be on track to become the first trillionaire, Informa Connect says he won’t the only one for very long.

If current growth rates stay unchanged, Adani Group founder Gautam Adani will reach that milestone in 2028, the group predicts, as will Barito Pacific founder Prajogo Pangestu. Jensen Huang is estimated to hit it by 2028 as well, though the calculations were done before Nvidia’s substantial drop in market capital in the last few weeks. (Huang’s net worth dropped by $10 billion in a single day last week after the company’s stock suffered a particularly blistering day.)

By 2030, the group estimates, Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg, LVMH founder Bernard Arnault (and his family), along with Nike’s Phil Knight (and his family) will join the trillion-dollar club.

By 2034, Informa predicts, there could be 10 trillionaires in existence.

There is, of course, an asterisk to all of these predictions. Stock fluctuations and market conditions are a critical ingredient—and Huang is not the only person on the list who has seen some rocky times of late. Musk, for instance, is worth far less today than he was in 2021, when he was estimated to be worth $340 billion. That’s due to volatility with Tesla stock (down 20% in the past year) and the struggles at Twitter/X, which is reportedly worth 71% less than when he bought it in 2022.
