Kentucky basketball under Mark Pope: Insiders unveil transfer portal news, 2025 recruits, roster, top targets

Kentucky basketball coach Mark Pope signed nine transfers in one month after taking over as the school’s head coach last year following John Calipari’s departure to Arkansas. Those transfers helped lead the Wildcats to the Sweet 16 in Pope’s first season in Lexington. However, many of them exhausted their eligibility, so Pope is rebuilding the Kentucky basketball roster this offseason. He has already earned multiple commitments from the college basketball transfer portal to go along with his incoming Kentucky basketball recruiting class.

The Wildcats are still waiting to see if leading scorer Otega Oweh will return for one more season. Oweh declared for the 2025 NBA Draft, but he is maintaining his college eligibility after averaging 16.2 points and 4.7 rebounds in 36 starts last season. Kentucky basketball roster news

Oweh has until May 28 to withdraw his name from the draft and maintain his collegiate eligibility, which is what Jaxson Robinson did last year. Backup center Brandon Garrison announced Sunday that he will return for another season, while reserves Collin Chandler, Trent Noah and Travis Perry are expected to be back as well. Pope officially announced the signings of his four-player transfer class last week, which ranks No. 3 nationally.

All four players rank inside the top 60 in the 247Sports transfer portal rankings, featuring Mouhamed Dioubate (Alabama), Jaland Lowe (Pittsburgh), Jayden Quaintance (Arizona State) and Kam Williams (Tulane). The Wildcats also signed a top-25 high school class that includes 4-star shooting guard Jasper Johnson and 4-star center Malachi Moreno. They are reportedly involved in the recruitment of Florida State transfer Jamir Watkins, who is ranked as the sixth-best player on the market. Get the latest Kentucky basketball roster news at CatsPause.
