What to Know
The LMU Lions’ homestand will continue as they prepare to take on the N. Alabama Lions at 7:00 p.m. ET on Sunday at Gersten Pavilion. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
LMU’s season wasn’t pretty last year but it’s starting to look like struggles are in the rearview. They took down Southern U. 89-73 on Friday.
LMU can attribute much of their success to Alex Merkviladze, who went 6 for 7 from beyond the arc en route to 24 points plus seven rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Merkviladze a new career-high in field goal percentage (63.6%). Another player making a difference was Jevon Porter, who scored 14 points in addition to eight rebounds.
LMU was working as a unit and finished the game with 22 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Southern U. only posted 11.
Meanwhile, N. Alabama entered their tilt with Charleston Southern on Thursday with two consecutive wins but they’ll enter their next game with three. They enjoyed a cozy 86-69 win over the Buccaneers.
LMU’s victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-4. As for N. Alabama, they have been performing well recently as they’ve won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season.
