UFC is set to close out its PPV calendar for 2024 on Saturday night in Las Vegas. Though it may not be full of the name value you might expect from a close out event, there’s still plenty of intriguing matchups up and down this fight card. It all reaches its conclusion with what should be an exciting main event between flyweight king Alexandre Pantoja and UFC debutant Kai Asakura.
UFC 310 was originally to be headlined by UFC welterweight champion Belal Muhammad vs. Shavkat Rakhmonov. Muhammad pulled out of the fight with a bone infection, leading Rakhmonov to accept a co-main event fight with Ian Machado Garry instead. Stepping up to the marquee is the card’s original co-main, UFC flyweight champion Alexandre Pantoja defending his title against former Rizin champion Kai Asakura in the latter’s UFC debut.
Pantoja has been a stalwart of the flyweight ranks for years now. He finally ascended to the throne in July 2023 with a split decision win over Brandon Moreno. He followed that up with a gutsy win over Brandon Royval and a dominant showing against Steve Erceg. Asakura has been a mainstay of Rizin for the last eight years. He posted a 13-3 record with the promotion, including incredible wins over Kyoji Horiguchi, Manel Kape, Shooto Watanabe and Juan Archuleta.
The co-main event may draw more attention than the title fight. Rakhmonov and Garry are two of the top contenders in the sport, regardless of weight class, and face off in a title eliminator. Rakhmonov brings a perfect 18-0 record to the Octagon, which includes a stoppage in every win. Garry is also unbeaten at 15-0. Elsewhere, Ciryl Gane and Alexander Volkov battle it out in the heavyweight division. And featherweights Movsar Evloev and Aljamain Sterling jockey for title contention in the featherweight division.
