Eminem is going to be a grandfather, and the way he announced it to the world is causing more than a few teary eyes.
The music video for his new song, “Temporary,” is dedicated to the rapper’s daughter, Hailie Jade, and features a montage of footage of the two together over the years interspersed with footage from Hailie’s wedding earlier this year—including a touching clip of Eminem choking back tears at his first sight of Hailie in her wedding dress.
At the end of the video, Hailie surprises her dad by giving him a Lions jersey that reads “#1” and “Grandpa” along with a photo from her ultrasound. Eminem’s jaw drops and his eyes go wide in shock, and then he tears up at receiving the news. It’s a truly touching moment to have captured, let alone shared with the world in a music video.
Hailie has since announced her pregnancy publicly with photos she shared on Instagram along with her husband, Evan McClintock, whom she married after they met as students at Michigan State University in 2016. In their announcement, they posed in their home with their ultrasound printout. They captioned the photos, “Mom & dad est. 2025.”
In previous interviews, Eminem has had positive things to say about Hailie’s relationship with McClintock. In 2020, before they got engaged, the rapper appeared on Hotboxin’ With Mike Tyson, where he revealed that Hailie was in a relationship.
“No babies. Just a boyfriend,” he said at the time. “She’s doing good. She’s made me proud for sure.”
“Temporary” is one of two songs on Eminem’s critically acclaimed new album, “The Death of Slim Shady,” that’s dedicated to his kids. It’s his 12th album, which he released in July. It debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
