The Council of Fashion Designers of America and Vogue are partnering to put on âFashion For Our Future,â a march to encourage voting, months before the United States will head to the polls for Novemberâs presidential election. The non-partisan event will bring together more than 1,000 participants from across the fashion industry, including designers, models, retailers, editors, influencers, factory workers and students on Sept. 6, the first day of New York Fashion Week, according to a statement by the CFDA.
âThis is an extraordinary election, with incredible consequences for our future and nothing could be more important than participating in it by voting,â Anna Wintour, chief content officer, Condé Nast and global editorial director, Vogue, said in the statement.
The march will take place in midtown Manhattan, with a goal of raising awareness for the importance of political participation. Non-profit organisation âI am a voterâ will be present to help participants register to vote and distribute information on how the industry can encourage the public to vote. Old Navy will outfit participants in T-shirts and dresses, which will also be available for purchase following the march.
In July, Vogue amped up its politics coverage, hiring Jack Schlossberg, President John F. Kennedyâs grandson and recent TikTok phenomenon, as its political correspondent. In March, Anna Wintour hosted a fundraising reception for US President Joe Bidenâs campaign during Paris Fashion Week.
